The Capability Quotient (CQ)

You know how: difficult it is to attain valid and reliable player personality data and evaluate how it improves player performance?

But what if: you could reliably produce comprehensive player profiles, and combine human analytics with performance statistics.

That’s why: I developed the capability quotient, using machine learning stripping out bias and gaming, delivering comprehensive psychological sport-specific reports, providing a definitive edge in a player’s life cycle (drafting, player development, trading, retirement), and unlocking player potential.

It’s kind of like: having performance data from the back of a player’s trading card, adding data about who is on the front, and using an organization’s defined culture to decrease talent risk and increase probability of success.

Actionable insights:

·       Empower scouting by providing relevant qualitative data prior to outreach and interviews

·       Identify preventive resources before problems occur

·       Enhance culture assimilation

·       Promote positive off-field behavior through person-centered development

·       Transparency into player / personnel communication

·       Understand balance within the organization and bring in people who enhance culture

·       Build trust and optimisim aligning people and culture

·       Uncover innovative methods yielding performance growth and consistency

Technical approach:

·       Big 5 OCEAN profiles derived from a proprietary machine learning natural language processing (NLP) algorithm. OCEAN profiles become remarkably stable after age 12 and Natural Language has shown to be remarkably good at predicting demographics and even the likelihood of depression. NLP is is a subfield of artificial intelligence and computer science focusing on the parsing and semantic interpretation of text, allowing computers to learn, analyze, and understand human language.

·  Machine learning debiases personality assesement, eliminates players taking assessments, and helps create more precise candidate psych reports

Psychological approach:

The big 5 (OCEAN = Openness, Conscientiousness, Extroversion, Neuroticism) are considered the gold standard for personality traits.

A well-accepted theory of psychology, marketing, and other fields is that human language reflects personality, thinking style, social connections, and emotional states. The frequency with which people use certain categories of words can provide clues to these characteristics. Several researchers found that variations in word usage in writings such as blogs, essays, and tweets can predict aspects of personality (Fast and Funder, 2008; Gill and others, 2009; Golbeck and others, 2011; Hirsh and Peterson, 2009; and Yarkoni, 2010).  Recent research (Saxon et al, 2020; Kern et all, 2019; Schwartz et al, 2018; Heslin et al, 2018; and others) connect personality with career outcomes, resilience, and future depression diagnosis.

Capability Quotient is the only research-backed platform combining personality (character), social/behavioral influences, and team culture delivering decision-making insights into if, why, and how players will succeed in a given environment.
